If you’ve ever walked past a Zumba class and witnessed the lively music, smiling faces and dance party-like atmosphere – you’ve probably been tempted to throw on your sportswear and sign up for a class. If so, take this post as your push to do so.
1. Trouble with consistency?
Zumba is amazing for your health in so many ways. To begin with, Zumba is FUN. One of the main reasons we so often seem to fall out of our well organised fitness routines, be it a daily run or weekly gym visits, is simply because they are boring. The repetitiveness of the same jogging route often demotivates us within a week or so. But the upbeat music, rapid movement and the revitalizing combination of dance and exercise will help you in releasing endorphins, making it a genuinely fun experience. Before you know it, you’ll be jumping out of bed to attend that class you booked!
2. Hit your targets
While it is definitely super enjoyable, make no mistake, Zumba is a workout. A huge reason people consistently attend Zumba is because of how many calories you actually burn from it. In a fitness practice such as Zumba, that centres around rapid and high intensity movement, it is sure to help you reach your weight loss goals. Furthermore, other forms of exercise such as weight training for example, only target certain areas of the body. If that’s your aim, great. However, if your goal is to get a full body workout in and to be healthy in totality – Zumba is an excellent option for you. Choreography will usually include footwork that targets your leg muscles, squats that work your glutes and core, as well as arm movements that will tone your arms. You can be assured that a Zumba class will have each and every muscle in your body performing to the best of its ability.
Moving on from the aspect of physical health, Zumba is an excellent way to broaden your social circle and find community. The repetitiveness and rigidity of everyday life can make it difficult to get out there and socialise. The fact that people don’t have time for much else than work these days has become a scary societal norm – considering the fact that socialization has major impacts on your overall health. Joining a group fitness class, especially one as unifying and enjoyable as Zumba, will help you find like minded friends with similar interests and goals as you.
In a community as tight knit as Tung Chung, where every second person seems to know each other – participating in community based activities will give a sense of belonging, greatly improving your mental health. While simultaneously taking care of your physical health, you’d be killing two birds with one stone!
