The main focus in BJJ is controlling the opponent on the ground after takedown.
Then gain a dominant position and use different techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu includes many elements from other martial arts such as Judo and Wrestling.
It develops high level of grappling that helps the practitioner to build confidence in their ability to control any confrontation if the situation requires.

What are the benefits of training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ( BJJ ) ?

Other then being extremely fun there are other benefits of practicing BJJ.
Brazilian jiu jitsu is one of the most beneficial ways to stay fit, develop self defence skill sets , improve mental health, and much more…
Here is why:

1. Weight loss

  • Most of the time when people start their weight loss journey – they go with the usual path.
  • Cardio , food restrictions and maybe some resistance training.
  • This is only one approach .
  • Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gives you another approach for workout and energy expenditure.
  • As BJJ is very demanding physically in one session a person can burn between 500-1000 Kcal (Thats right )!
  • This is great if you are trying to hit a caloric deficit in order lose weight.
( Watch how one of our clients lost over 15 KG up to date and had completely changed his lifestyle with BJJ )

2. Conditioning

  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as an art is very demanding both physically as well as mentally .
  • BJJ practitioners need to develop endurance , speed , agility , flexibility and understand how to efficiently use their body both standing as well as on the ground.
  • Due to the ‘ all in ‘ element of BJJ where you are forced to deal with your opponent full effort – your effort goes to maximum as well .
  • That is the reason why in most cases Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes ending with all the participants completely exhausted.
  • With time and consistency both the skill set , the strength and the conditioning improves which allows you to go longer and harder .

3. Practical Self-Defense skills

  • The truth is : no one wants to get into a fight or a confrontation .
  • Many times though it is not up to you – and there are many example of school kids that are being bullied and can’t stand for themselves.
  • It happens with adults too.
  • Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gives the practitioner effective technics to defend themselves as well as control the opponent without really harming them .
  • One of the fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu is understanding how to use leverage .
  • This means that even small person can overcome much stronger and bigger opponent.

4. Mental Health & Growth Mindset

  • The great things about Jiu Jitsu is the constant growth and the never ending process of overcoming challenges.
  • Although your training partners trying to submit you in training in the end of the day BJJ creates a long lasting friendship and supportive community.
  • No matter where you will step to practice it you will be welcomed.
  • That is also one of the reasons why BJJ is such a good martial arts for kids to experience and practice
